Khammouane
Khammouane Province is a province in central Laos. Its capital lies at Thakhek which is the provincial capital and situated along the Mekong River’s banks. Its architecture is largely influenced by early 20th-century French colonial construction. The town’s name, “Khek,” translates to “guest landing” in Lao and alludes to its previous use as a boat landing for foreign traders. The fountain plaza beside the river, where many historic buildings still stand, is the hub of the old town.Kham District is situated about 600 meters above sea level.
